Sr. Systems Engineer
Mike Dorris started as an engineering consultant in Chicago since 2008 and has been a part of Public Media Engineering since 2013. While working as a contractor, Mike worked for the John Hancock Center FM Combiner, CBS Radio, Spanish Broadcasting System, and several local college and high school radio stations. He has built multiple studios, installed transmitters for small and large broadcasters alike, repaired AM ground systems, and helped design custom coaxial switch controllers.
Mike also worked as the Chief Engineer of WLEY-FM in Chicago. While at the station, Mike completely rebuilt the main on air studio, along with two of three of the stations production rooms. Mike also rewired the TOC, backup air studio, and remaining production room. On top of all of that, Mike installed a new solid state transmitter, built a custom coaxial switch controller, and reconfigured the station’s air chain.
Currently, he assists and leads on studio builds, transmitter installs, antenna sweeps, and various other projects. Mike has a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
